Availability of Resources and Successful Implementation of NG-CDF Funded Projects in Turbo Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya
Abstract
This study examined the effect of availability of resources on the successful implementation of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) funded projects in Turbo Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. The study was guided by the Resource-Based Theory and used a descriptive survey research design. The target population included 156 respondents who were fund managers, school principals/head teachers and procurement officers involved in NG-CDF projects, with the sample population of 112 respondents determined by Yamane's formula. This was done through the use of structured questionnaires; descriptive and inferential statistics were used in analysing the data with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Cronbach's Alpha for the internal consistency of the construct of availability of resources was 0.758. The results showed that there was a positive, strong and statistically significant relationship between availability of resources and successful implementation of projects funded by the NG-CDF (r = 0.797; p<0.01). The regression results also indicated that availability of resources has a positive and significant effect on successful implementation (B = 0.224, Beta = 0.232, t = 2.210, p = 0.030), and the null hypothesis was rejected. The study reveals that sufficient and timely funding of financial, material and human resources is one of the important factors that determines the successful implementation of NG-CDF funded projects. The study suggests that the funds should be disbursed in time, with sound financial planning, regular audits, transparent reporting and a partnership with external parties to augment resources in the local community and strengthen project results in the area of Turbo Constituency.
